My Teaching Philosophy

Guiding a Brighter, More Inclusive Future through Art Education

"The teachers of a people are the people themselves. Education is the process of helping young people to help themselves. Education, therefore, is a process of living and not a preparation for future living." - Pádraig Pearse

As a devoted art teacher, I am deeply passionate about the transformative power of art education. I firmly believe that education, especially in the arts, has the potential to illuminate the path to a brighter and more inclusive future.

Inspiration, Creativity, and Inclusivity

I see my role as an educator extending beyond traditional boundaries. My mission is to inspire and nurture creativity in my students, making art education accessible to all. I believe in activating curiosity and giving everyone the opportunity to express themselves through art, fostering wonder and imagination.

Student Leadership and Community Engagement

In my classroom, inclusivity and equity are paramount. I am committed to creating an environment where students not only learn about art but actively engage in creating themselves. I foster a student-centred approach, allowing them to have a say in their learning journey. This approach is the foundation for building a collective social framework within the classroom and beyond, where students find each other, creating a community of artists.

Cross-Curricular Exploration and Lifelong Learning

I value cross-curricular techniques that connect art with other subjects, promoting a holistic approach to learning. By exposing students to a diverse range of art and art history, I aim to instil a passion for learning that goes beyond the classroom. I acknowledge that teaching is a reciprocal process, and I continue to learn alongside my students, evolving my methods to meet their ever-evolving needs.

Community and Citizenship

A fundamental goal of my teaching is to guide students in becoming responsible, respectable citizens actively contributing to their community. Through art education, I instil values of creativity, empathy, and social responsibility. My aim is to develop creative citizens who not only appreciate the transformative power of art but actively contribute to the betterment of their community.

In conclusion, my philosophy as an art teacher is grounded in a profound commitment to nurturing the creative spirit, promoting inclusivity, and inspiring equity in art education. I am dedicated to providing a transformative learning experience that empowers students to envision a brighter, more inclusive future through their artistic journeys, fostering their growth as responsible, passionate, and creative citizens of their community.
